The distinctive lush elasticated synths of fresh new Fairmont single ‘Flight Of The Albatross’ offers a taster of the delights to come on the ‘Coloured In Memory’ album, backed with an ever so slightly off-kilter ensemble of remixes from Metope, Christ. and Reef Carribean.
Krauty, synthy, epic, heady, disorientating and melancholic all at the same time, the driving triplets and wonderfully wonky dongs of ‘Flight Of The Albatross’ make a winning bid for the resurrection of the ghost of Schaffel’s past, and are surely destined to cater for many a club ‘moment’ over the coming months. On remix duties, Border Community artist of the future Reef Carribean gets his first unveiling, where faint echoes of Underworld shimmer through his intensely melodic and ever-so-slightly-housey rework. Areal mainman Metope meanwhile has been on our remixer wishlist for quite some time, so we happily handed him the task of transforming Fairmont’s wistful yearnings into an equally wonky slice of 4/4 tech funk for the dancefloor massive. Finally, the package is brought to a perfect close with the cascading melodies and shuffling breaks of the remix from Benbecula Records’ hardman of electronica Christ.
